The 2026 South African Reit (Real Estate Investment Trust) Conference took place in Houghton, Johannesburg, last week, and things were a lot more upbeat for the listed property sector.

Now, we have reported on how much the sector has surged in the last two years, but what’s happening on the commercial property financing side?

Gary Garrett, managing executive of property finance at Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), spoke about increased activity in SA’s commercial property market at the SA Reit Conference.

To share more insights, we have Vanessa Murray, property finance divisional executive at Nedbank CIB, on our latest podcast. She was also at the conference and shares the more optimistic sentiments for the industry at this year’s event compared to 2024, when it last took place.

Murray was last on the podcast back in November 2024, when she weighed in on the housing market.
