Bids invited to complete A9 dualling programme – Daily Business

Stephen Flynn: clear signal

Contractors are being invited to bid for the remaining 58 miles of the A9 dualling programme, a £1.94 billion project to upgrade the route.

The first contract to be procured using the new Framework Agreement will be the Dalraddy and Slochd section, which includes the replacement of three at-grade junctions (Aviemore South, Granish (A95) and Blackmount (Carrbridge)) with three new grade-separated junctions.

Stephen Flynn, the Economy, Tourism and Transport Secretary, said: “We are serious about delivering the A9 Dualling.

“We have listened to the construction industry and have refreshed our delivery model to support this Government’s commitment to delivering dualling of the A9 by the end of 2035.

“This announcement today is evidence of our continued commitment to full dualling of the A9.”

He added that the A9 Dualling Programme is not just about infrastructure: it is about strengthening connections between the Highlands and the Central Belt, supporting economic growth, and local communities by creating opportunities for people and businesses across Scotland.

The Government announced the A9 Dualling in December 2023. Since then, all planned milestones have been met including award of the contract for dualling between Tomatin and Moy and Tay Crossing and Ballinluig as well as the commencement of procurement for the section between Pitlochry to Killiecrankie.

The A9 Dualling Programme will upgrade approximately 80 miles of single carriageway between Perth and Inverness to dual carriageway, improving safety, journey times, and reliability.

Over 10 miles of the route are now dualled, (Between Luncarty to Pass of Birnam and Kincraig to Dalraddy) 11 miles of the route are currently in construction, and a fifth section between Pitlochry and Killiecrankie is expected to be awarded later this year.
