A strike due to go ahead on Wednesday at STV hinges on the company agreeing to withdraw the threat of compulsory redundancies involving two employees.

The National Union of Journalists is likely to withdraw its walk-out plan if the company scraps the demand which is part a plan to cut the north edition of the News at 6.

STV did not respond to a request for comment from Daily Business on the current state of negotiations.

The company has brought forward the launch of STV Radio to Tuesday in order to avoid clashing with the potential action. If the strike goes ahead staff will join picket lines in Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Around 94% of members of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) voted in favour of strike action.

STV announced 60 redundancies – of which half would be in news – soon after issuing a profits warning last summer.

Despite local opposition in the north east to the run-down of the Aberdeen studio, a revised plan has received conditional support from media regulator Ofcom.

New agency focuses on positivity

A new communications agency has been launched in Edinburgh by former Muckle Media director Chris Batchelor.

Feel Good Comms is on the lookout for recruits to join an agency focused on spreading a positive message.

With more than a decade of experience spanning PR, social media, influencer partnerships, experiential marketing and creative campaigns, Mr Batchelor held roles at London agencies including PrettyGreen, PHA, Karmarama, and Publicasity.

His portfolio includes work with brands such as Disney Parks, Three Mobile, Vauxhall Motors, and Brooks Running.

“We feel like we live in a time where the world needs more good news and there’s a real opportunity for brands right now to spread positivity and purpose,” he said.
