BlackBrick opens Cape Town aparthotel

The aparthotel group, BlackBrick, opened its Cape Town flagship in November, just ahead of the peak festive season.

Located on Roodehek Street, the new BlackBrick Gardens hotel features 93 apartments and is housed in a former mid-century hat factory. The group says that the opening marks a significant step in its global expansion plans.

According to BlackBrick, the new property is situated at the foot of Lion’s Head and Table Mountain and is designed for the progressive nomad, contract professional, and modern traveler, offering a blend of short- and long-term stays.

The exterior’s heritage has been preserved, while the interior features a dramatically excavated central atrium to flood the space with natural light. Each apartment includes two balconies, a kitchenette, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a lounge.

Other food and drink spaces include Max’s Mezcal Bar, Lucy’s Juice Bar, and a Minimalist Wine tasting lane, along with a coffee bar in partnership with Rosetta Roastery.

Amenities also include co-working and meeting spaces, a Pilates studio, and a rooftop pool. The property offers the BB+ Membership platform, a curated experiences program giving members and locals access to art, wellness, and community events.

Co-founder Jonathan Liebmann says that Gardens is the “prototype for where we’re headed globally,” with the model focusing on designing spaces where people can stay, work, and create.

He also noted his passion for the project’s goal of upliftment, transforming Roodehek Street into a hub of local partnerships and co-labs.

BlackBrick currently has established locations in Johannesburg and Cape Town, with Umhlanga on the horizon and expansion to the USA next in line.
