Two towers proposal for former newspaper site – Daily Business

The plan for Renfield Street involves two towers

Former newspaper offices in Glasgow are likely to be replaced by a development including more student and co-living accommodation.

A public square would also be created on the site of the Herald and Times newspapers with the relocation of a C-listed fountain and space for shops and restaurants.

The acccommodation comprises 381 beds in a 20-storey tower, while a second 12-storey block would have 167 co-living units.

The application by MRP 200 Ren Limited is recommended for approval by city councillors next week. There have been nine objections and five letters of support.

A council report says: “The application site is located within an area undergoing positive change, representing an opportunity to bring a vacant site back into productive use and contribute to the re-population of the City Centre.

“The proposed student accommodation and co-living development will deliver high-quality residential buildings with shared amenity spaces and provide significantly improved public realm to the locality through the “Arts Square” and the re-imagined lane network.

“The scheme respects the site’s context in a prominent city centre location and addresses environmental constraints through careful design.”
