Watt eyes three breweries to produce new beers – Daily Business

Second Best is James Watt’s new venture

BrewDog co-founder James Watt is targeting three breweries he could buy to brew his new beers.

Mr Watt, who left BrewDog in May 2024 and was rebuffed in his attempts to buy its back from new US owner Tilray Brands, is now launching Second Best and says 50,000 people have registered to own a piece of the company.

In a social media post he said Second Best is “starting to come to life” and that recipes for the first two beers are ready, a 6.7% strength West Coast IPA and 5.4% Export Helles. Brand designs are due next week.

“We are looking at three breweries that Second Best could potentially buy,” he said. “And while we figure that out, we’re talking to some brilliant brewing partners about making the first batches for us.

“Most importantly, we’re going to build this company with the people who own it. We’ll share the designs. The beers. The decisions. The wins. The inevitable f***-ups.

“And in a week or so, we’re launching another drinks business that the Second Best community will also own part of. Hint: it helps with hangovers.

“I am excited to be building again. Let’s make some great beer.”
