Scottish Renewables hires energy exec as new CEO – Daily Business

Angela Hepworth: transformative time

Scottish Renewables has appointed former energy industry executive Angela Hepworth as chief executive to succeed Claire Mack who leaves at the end of this month.

Ms Hepworth has more than two decades of experience in civil service and industry roles, including the future of UK energy policy.

She was latterly corporate affairs director and commercial director at Drax, leading work on low-carbon projects. She previously served as policy & regulation director at EDF UK, leading work on the development of Sizewell C.

Ms Hepworth began her career at the Department for Trade & Industry, where she worked on security of energy supply and the development of electricity markets.

Susie Lind, chair of Scottish Renewables, said: “As we work to deliver a sustainable, secure and affordable energy future for Scotland, Angela’s expertise will be invaluable in representing our members and driving the policy changes necessary to unlock further investment and innovation.”

Ms Hepworth added: “I am honoured to be joining Scottish Renewables at such a transformative time for the energy sector. Scotland has already made remarkable progress in its renewable energy journey, but there is much more to be done to fully realise our potential.”

She will join Scottish Renewables on 20 July and assume the role of chief executive on 31 July, when Ms Mack steps down after serving as CEO since 2017.

Commenting on Ms Mack’s departure, Ms Lind added: “Claire has worked tirelessly over the past nine years to champion for the sector in Scotland. Under her leadership, Scottish Renewables has grown in impact and influence.

“We are very grateful for the commitment she has shown to the organisation and the sector, and wish her well as she takes on an exciting new position at SSEN Transmission.”
