A company turning waste glass into panels used in modular homes has secured more than £5 million to develop its manufacturing operations in southern Scotland.
Dumfries-based Vaso Global has developed the technology which enables buildings to be built at a fraction of the time and cost of traditional methods. On one project it expects to cut the construction timetable from 33 weeks to 10.
The investment will support the development of Vaso’s new 60,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Dumfries, creating up to 70 jobs over the next five years and strengthening the circular economy.
PXN Ventures has invested £1.4m, along with £621,000 from Scottish Enterprise, a £2m loan from Innovate UK, and £800,000 from ECO Group. It had already secured £330,000 from South of Scotland Enterprise.
Eddie Black, the firm’s co-founder and managing director, said: “We want to thank all those who have seen the potential in our technology.”
The company’s innovation has been widely heralded as a potential solution to the UK and Scottish housing crisis, following the Scottish Government’s declaration of a national housing emergency in 2024.
Vaso Global building solutions are already being explored for community?led housing projects in the South of Scotland and form part of wider collaborations with universities, architects and housing bodies, aimed at enabling Scotland to scale industrialised construction at speed.
The funding announcement follows the appointment of Graham McDonald as chairman. Douglas Morrison, deputy CEO of Built Environment – Smarter Transformation (BE-ST) whose mission is to accelerate Scotland’s transition to a zero carbon built environment and construction sector, is acting as an unpaid strategic adviser.
