Baroness Mone and her husband Doug Barrowman are being sued in a legal action brought by liquidators of the collapsed company PPE Medpro.

A court has already ruled in favour of the UK government that the firm was in breach of contract for failing to supply sterile gowns during the pandemic.

Although the government was awarded £122 million plus interest, the company had put itself into administration a day before the judgment. It had less than £1 million of assets on its balance sheet.

Interpath Advisory, which was appointed liquidator of PPE Medpro in December, has begun a new legal action to recover funds.

Mone and Barrowman are named in court papers along with a number of associates and related businesses.

PPE Medpro won its first contract to supply masks via the government’s VIP lane, which was set up to fast-track trusted suppliers.

It later emerged that Mone, a Conservative peer in the House of Lords, had made a recommendation to UK ministers. She denied any links to the company which was set up by an executive team

Mone and Barrowman were not directors of PPE Medpro and for a long time they denied any connection with the firm. However, in 2023 Barrowman confirmed in an interview that he was the ultimate beneficial owner of the company.

It sold £200 million of personal protective equipment to the UK government. In December 2020, the Department for Health and Social Care rejected the gowns, saying they were not up to standard.
