BrewDog has ditched an advertising campaign which used the phrase “commercial suicide” following claims it was in poor taste.
The Aberdeenshire brewer, which was promoting its new Punk IPA recipe, used the tagline “tastes like commercial suicide” on roadside billboards.
Management used social media to announce that the company was “launching the new Punk IPA recipe across the UK: cleaner, brighter and punchier than ever.”
But the promotion was met with a furious backlash, not least from suicide campaigners who accused BrewDog of serious misjudgement and insensitivity.
The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) said it had received complaints about the advert.
A spokesperson said: “We’re aware that the advertiser has taken prompt action to remove the ads on their own accord, so the cases have been closed with no investigation required.”
BrewDog has not commented.
