Douglas Fraser is leaving the BBC where he has been the Scottish Economy and Business Editor for 17 years.
In an announcement on social media he said he had chosen to leave and that his reason for leaving was “an answer for another day”. He said, however, that it was “not an easy decision to make”.
He said his next move had not been decided there were ideas he “wanted to pursue and try out”. He added that “some of them might surprise you”.
He will continue writing on the Substack platform and will be reaching back into the experience gained in over 40 years in journalism, which included coverage of politics, education and the arts.
Fraser worked for The Scotsman, The Herald and now-defunct Sunday Herald before moving to BBC Scotland in 2008.
He co-wrote the Political Guide to Modern Scotland and, in a self-deprecating note on the BBC website, he said he had authored a report on the Scottish media for the Institute of Public Policy Research, which has been widely ignored.
