Scottish Conservatives will today launch a campaign to save struggling pubs and demand ministers take action to cut business rates.
Leader Russell Findlay will add his voice to broad industry and political concerns that many hospitality businesses are on the brink of collapse.
He will visit an Ayrshire-based business today to demand urgent support from the SNP for the sector.
“If they fail to do so, many will be forced to call last orders,” he said ahead of forcing a vote in Holyrood on Wednesday calling for 100% rates relief for hospitality businesses with a value of up to £100,000.
Shadow business secretary Murdo Fraser will also urge Finance Secretary Shona Robison to postpone her revaluation scheme which is set to hit businesses with rate rises of up to 300% in some cases.
At the weekend, LibDem Economy spokesman Jamie Greene called on the Scottish government to emulate the Northern Ireland Executive and pause rates rises.
The Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers (ASSC) has also called on Scottish Ministers to replicate Northern Ireland’s approach.
