Nairn’s Oatcakes, one of Scotland’s best-known brands, credits growth in core business and new product launches for a rise in sales and profits.

The Edinburgh-based firm said growth in domestic and international markets helped profits grow to £4.9m for the year to May 2025, from £4.2m in the previous 12 months. Turnover rose by 6.6% to £50.6m from £47.5m.

The company, which this year celebrates its 130th anniversary and employs 238 staff across two sites, credited a new Marmite and cheese flavour for the sales growth in oatcakes. It also saw upticks in gluten-free product sales, including its biscuit and snack ranges.

However, the company also outlined significant cost increases to the business, including the National Living Wage increases, national insurance rises and additional taxes on packaging.

Colin Dingwall, managing director, said: “In recent years, we have worked hard to improve and expand our range of baked products through flavours and formats.

“As we look forward, like many other businesses, our business face challenges but we believe we have the brand and the team to continue to be successful in the future.”
