Germany is in talks with South Africa over a further €720 million ($845 million) in climate-related concessional loans, Rainer Baake, a government official for the European nation said.
The loans would fall under the so-called Just Energy Transition Partnership, a climate-finance pact between South Africa and some of the world’s richest nations, Baake, Germany’s envoy for the JETP, said at a press conference in Pretoria on Friday.
In total Germany has pledged €2.68 billion in climate assistance to South Africa under the program, compared with an initial €986 million commitment, he said.
