Sasol adds seasoned energy executive Rhidwaan Gasant to its board

Sasol Limited has announced the appointment of Rhidwaan Gasant as an independent non-executive director, effective 1 February 2026. The move comes as the petrochemical giant continues to navigate a complex global energy transition and strives to meet its strategic commitments to shareholders.

Gasant, a chartered accountant, brings over 30 years of experience in the financial, governance, and energy sectors. His career has spanned significant leadership roles both within South Africa and internationally.

A proven track record in energy and governance

Gasant is a well-known figure in the South African corporate landscape, particularly within the energy sector. He previously served as the CEO of Energy Africa Limited and as financial director at Engen Limited. His early career included tenure as a senior audit manager at KPMG before moving into the energy industry with Mobil Oil Southern Africa.

His board-level expertise is equally extensive. Gasant currently serves as the chair of Growthpoint Properties Limited and has recently held high-profile roles, including lead independent director of AngloGold Ashanti plc and audit committee chair of MTN Nigeria Communications plc. He also serves on the board of the V&A Waterfront.

Sasol chair Muriel Dube emphasised that Gasant’s appointment is timed to strengthen the board’s oversight as the company delivers on its long-term objectives.

“His extensive financial, governance, and energy sector experience will further strengthen the board’s oversight and strategic guidance,” Dube noted.
