On this week’s episode, we have a familiar face in the listed property sector. He is the CEO of Growthpoint Properties here in SA, and the incoming Group CEO of Growthpoint when Norbert Sasse retires at the end of June.

Estienne de Klerk has been a leader in SA’s property sector for over 20 years and played a key role in getting Reit (real estate investment trust) legislation passed in the country just over a decade ago.

This is an upper echelons type of interview, with De Klerk also still the chair of the industry body, the SA Reit Association.

He shares his insights on the industry’s performance, expectations for the year ahead, corporate leadership, and why he believes SA is turning the corner on the economic front.

De Klerk also talks about some of Growthpoint’s major developments in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg – including the V&A Waterfront, Olympus Sandton, and a student accommodation development at the entrance of the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s main campus.
