Momentum Insure has appointed Francois Venter as its new chief risk officer, effective 1 January 2026.
Venter brings more than 20 years of experience across local and international insurance and investment markets.
He previously worked at the Momentum Group, then known as Metropolitan Life, joining in 2004 as head of annuity products. In 2009, he moved to Canada to take up the role of assistant vice-president for hedging and investment strategies at Manulife Financial, where he focused on risk modelling and investment management.

After returning to South Africa in 2012, he joined Momentum Investments as head of alternative investments and investment products.
Most recently, he was a co-founder of Ctrl Technologies, an insurance technology business, where he oversaw product strategy, executive operations and the risk management function.

Momentum Insure chief executive Brand Pretorius notes in a statement that Venter’s combination of actuarial expertise, international investment experience and involvement in the insurance technology sector made him well suited to the role.
Venter is a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa and holds a BCom (Hons) in actuarial science from Stellenbosch University.
