Five years after launching his Glasgow-based recruitment business, Craig McKellar has hired his first employee as he embarks on the next stage in its development.
Alex Hill will become a senior consultant at McKellar Consulting and will focus on accountancy and finance markets across Scotland.
Mr Hill, 31, brings experience working in commercial roles across sales, project management and, latterly, recruitment.
Over the last four years he has been working for a large recruitment company where he specialised in the accountancy & finance market. His knowledge, expertise and network in the Scottish A&F market across the private, public and third sectors will be a huge asset to the organisation
Mr McKellar, 39, has 10 years’ experience in recruitment and six years working in Big Four audit before that.
He will continue to specialise in the Professional Services market focusing on senior leader talent in tax, audit, corporate finance and advisory across Scotland and the north of England.
Mr McKellar said: “The appointment of Alex signals the dawn of a new chapter at McKellar Consulting as we look to serve the community of Finance professionals with a more tailored approach.
“My first employee hire is a very important one and I was pleased to see that Alex and I aligned in our ethics and values. I am delighted to welcome him to the organisation.
“Since 2020, McKellar Consulting has delivered recruitment talent solutions for Professional Services clients across Scotland and the north of England with ad-hoc projects elsewhere in the UK. This has been and will continue to be at the senior and middle levels.”
Mr Hill, said: “I’m really excited to be teaming up with such a well-respected face in the market as Craig. From the very first conversation regarding this opportunity, it was clear we were well aligned on both our ambitions and values. I’m proud that Craig has trusted me as his first hire and can’t wait to get started.”
Commenting on the recruitment market, Mr McKellar said: “The war for talent has only intensified in professional services. In recent years, accountancy firms have seen a flood of private equity (PE) investment into the sector resulting in more opportunities for high-calibre talent on the market as these firms look to scale.
“This has also created more opportunities at non-PE firms. In a wider context, the accounting profession is becoming even more interesting and appealing as it evolves with AI and automation, leading to the redesign of roles from junior to partner level.
“The role of an accountant is undoubtedly becoming even more important in regards to strategy and advisory.”
