SOSE has plans to convert a loan to an equity share in The Carbon Removers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The Carbon Removers aims to remove one million tonnes per year by 2030 by expanding carbon sequestering projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Founded by brothers Ed and Richard Nimmons, The Carbon Removers is the only UK company granted a storage licence to permanently remove carbon from Denmark and the EU\u2019s first CO2 storage facility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The development is seen as building on the investment by Center Parcs to reinforce the reputation of the South of Scotland as a place to do business.\u00a0It comes ahead of a Scottish Parliament reception to celebrate the successes of the region\u2019s businesses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Russel Griggs, Chair of SOSE, said: \u201cWe have worked closely with The Carbon Removers from the beginning of their journey, which included playing a vital role in the roll-out of the Covid Pfizer vaccine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThey have now grown and diversified into carbon removal and storage internationally \u2013 all from their original site in the tiny village of Crocketford, where they continue to be based.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Prof-Russel-Griggs.png\" alt=\"Prof Russel Griggs\" class=\"wp-image-165267 lazyload\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"794\" height=\"513\" src=\"https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Prof-Russel-Griggs.png\" alt=\"Prof Russel Griggs\" class=\"wp-image-165267 lazyload\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Prof-Russel-Griggs.png 794w, https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Prof-Russel-Griggs-300x194.png 300w, https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Prof-Russel-Griggs-768x496.png 768w, https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Prof-Russel-Griggs-600x388.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 794px) 100vw, 794px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Russel Griggs: a rural location should be no barrier to innovation<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThey have demonstrated that a rural location should be no barrier to innovation, and we look forward to seeing The Carbon Removers continue to grow and prosper.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Martin Valenti, SOSE\u2019s Director of Investment and Sustainable Enterprise, said: \u201cWe want to unlock ambition at every level \u2013 which is why we are backing The Carbon Removers team and their aim to generate \u00a31bn per year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWith the South of Scotland being the nation\u2019s Natural Capital Innovation Zone, we see companies such as The Carbon Removers as vital to helping drive forward innovation and also helping attract responsible investment to benefit our region, and the rest of Scotland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Deputy First Minister and Economy Secretary Kate Forbes said: \u201cCarbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is of the utmost importance to Scotland\u2019s climate and economic transition to net zero \u2013 without it we couldn\u2019t reduce emissions from the hardest to abate sectors including chemicals, cement and certain aspects of power generation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cCCS uses many of the same skills as the oil and gas industry and will continue skilled employment across the supply chain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cIt\u2019s great to see SOSE supporting a home-grown company leading the charge both here and in Europe.
