{"id":9810,"date":"2026-01-06T10:45:23","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T10:45:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=9810"},"modified":"2026-01-06T10:45:23","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T10:45:23","slug":"wes-streeting-warns-of-disintegration-of-rules-based-world-order-after-venezuela-attack-us-attack-on-venezuela","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=9810","title":{"rendered":"Wes Streeting warns of \u2018disintegration\u2019 of rules-based world order after Venezuela attack | US attack on Venezuela"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A senior British cabinet minister had warned of the \u201cdisintegration\u201d of the international rules-based system in the aftermath of the US capture of the Venezuelan president, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/nicolas-maduro\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Nicol\u00e1s Maduro<\/a>, saying the instability poses a threat to Britain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Wes Streeting, the health secretary, declined to criticise Donald Trump directly and said that the prime minister, Keir Starmer, did not have the \u201cluxury of commentating\u201d but suggested he was disturbed by the international picture, saying the rules-based order was \u201ccreaking at the seams\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI think what we\u2019ve seen in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/venezuela\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Venezuela<\/a> are morbid symptoms of the disintegration of the rules-based international system, and that is a real concern for the government and for Britain\u2019s national interest, because a world without rules is a world in which we are less safe,\u201d Streeting said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The health secretary suggested in a separate interview that the abduction and indictment on drugs and weapons charges of Maduro was yet another sign that Europe needed to take more robust charge of its own intelligence and defence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cHow do we make sure that we are upholding European defence and security, including our own national security, at a time when the rules-based order has been disintegrating before our eyes? And let\u2019s be clear about this, a world without rules is a world in which we are all less safe,\u201d he told GB News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThe UK supports the rules-based international system. We have seen it creaking at the seams, and now we see it disintegrating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Streeting defended Starmer\u2019s decision to not make outright criticism of Trump\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWhat the prime minister is doing and the foreign secretary is doing is weighing up what they say, how they say it and when they say it, because this is a delicate moment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cAnd what the prime Minister\u2019s considerations are is, first and foremost, UK interests and national security. It had been invaded by Russia, by Iran, by Hezbollah.
