{"id":9474,"date":"2026-01-05T10:48:30","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T10:48:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=9474"},"modified":"2026-01-05T10:48:30","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T10:48:30","slug":"or-tambo-international-flight-delays-amid-post-festive-travel-rush","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=9474","title":{"rendered":"OR Tambo International flight delays amid post-festive travel rush"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"textFreeArticle\">\n<p>The Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS) says it is addressing flight delays experienced at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>This comes as travellers return from their holiday destinations after the festive season break.<\/p>\n<p>Read: South Africa facing air-traffic-controller crisis, report says<\/p>\n<p>Passengers took to social media on Sunday to vent their frustrations about the delays, saying they were not informed and that the delays were not communicated through the various arrival and departure information systems at OR Tambo International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>ATNS Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications Mphilo Dlamini said the delays were primarily due to temporary human resource constraints at the Air Traffic Control station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cATNS wishes to assure travellers, airlines, and all stakeholders that contingency measures have been implemented and additional resources are being deployed to stabilise operations. These interventions are expected to resolve the situation today and progressively restore normal service levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-safety\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Safety<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Dlamini said safety remains their highest priority, and ATNS continues to work closely with airlines and airport partners to minimise disruptions and ensure the safe and efficient movement of air traffic.<\/p>\n<div class=\"visible-sm-block visible-xs-block m1010\">\n<div class=\"ad-container-wrapper\">\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>CONTINUE READING BELOW<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank travellers and operators for their patience and cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, Airlink also regretted any delays, saying they are working to recover the schedule and ensure that all passengers reach their intended destinations as \u201csoon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe delays stem from the Air Traffic Navigation Service\u2019s (ATNS) failure to ensure it has sufficient staff to accommodate and manage the normal scheduled traffic to and from Johannesburg\u2019s O.R. Tambo International Airport today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s schedule disruptions have had a ripple effect on all of our flights. In addition to departure delays from O.R.
