{"id":7877,"date":"2025-12-29T23:28:40","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T23:28:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=7877"},"modified":"2025-12-29T23:28:40","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T23:28:40","slug":"hamas-will-have-hell-to-pay-if-it-fails-to-disarm-trump-warns-after-netanyahu-meeting-benjamin-netanyahu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=7877","title":{"rendered":"Hamas will have \u2018hell to pay\u2019 if it fails to disarm, Trump warns after Netanyahu meeting | Benjamin Netanyahu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/donaldtrump\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Donald Trump<\/a> has warned that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/hamas\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Hamas<\/a> will have \u201chell to pay\u201d if it fails to disarm while offering full-throated support to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/benjamin-netanyahu\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> during a meeting with the Israeli prime minister in Florida.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In a bravura display of mutual admiration, Netanyahu announced that the US president would be awarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/israel\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Israel<\/a> prize, the country\u2019s highest civilian honour, which since its inception in the 1950s has never before been given to a non-Israeli person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The trip by Netanyahu to Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago residence came amid a new push by officials in Washington to force concessions from Israel to allow progress towards the second phase of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/gaza\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Gaza<\/a> peace plan, which in October halted the devastating two-year-long war.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Asked if he and Netanyahu had discussed Israel pulling back troops before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/hamas\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Hamas<\/a> fully disarmed, Trump told reporters: \u201cIf they don\u2019t disarm as they agreed to do \u2013 they agreed to it \u2013 then there\u2019ll be hell to pay for them and we don\u2019t want that, we\u2019re not looking for that. He said he was \u201cnot concerned about anything that Israel is doing\u201d and \u201cIsrael has lived up to the plan, 100%\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">He repeatedly pointed the finger at Hamas, saying \u201cit\u2019ll be horrible for them\u201d if they failed to disarm. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be really, really bad for them, and I don\u2019t want that to happen. But they made an agreement that they were going to disarm. And you couldn\u2019t blame Israel,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Trump claimed that other countries that supported the peace deal would \u201cgo in and wipe out Hamas\u201d if it fails to hold up its end of the bargain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The two leaders held a lunch meeting inside Mar-a-Lago along with their delegations. Netanyahu was expected to tell Trump that Hamas must return the remains of the last Israeli hostage left in Gaza before the next stages of the stalled ceasefire can be implemented, Israeli officials and analysts said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Speaking to reporters before the meeting, Trump falsely said \u201cjust about\u201d every hostage was released because of him and his team, whereas \u201cnone\u201d were released during the Joe Biden administration. Israel has significant concerns about both.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Gvili, a 24-year-old police officer, was badly wounded and then abducted during the October 2023 Hamas raid into Israel that triggered the conflict. About 400 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/12\/24\/world\/middleeast\/gaza-killings-israel-cease-fire.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">since the October ceasefire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In recent weeks, Hamas has successfully established its authority over the parts of Gaza it controls with a series of executions, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/qudsn\/status\/2005308324817039776?s=20\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">raids<\/a> and beatings targeting rival power brokers, collaborators with Israel and criminal gangs. Most of Gaza\u2019s 2.3 million population is said to now live in the Hamas-controlled zone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Islamist militant organisation has proposed some solutions to allow some of its weapons to be put into storage but has refused to accept full disarmament.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">For Netanyahu, who faces an election within 10 months, the prospect of Iran repairing the damage inflicted on its nuclear programme in its short war with Israel and the US this summer and building up its ballistic missile capabilities is a priority.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Trump had previously insisted that Iran\u2019s nuclear capabilities were \u201ccompletely and fully obliterated\u201d. But if it\u2019s confirmed, look, they know the consequences will be very powerful, maybe more powerful than the last time.\u201d Pressed for evidence, he said: \u201cThis is just what we hear, but usually where there\u2019s smoke, there\u2019s fire.<em>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Israeli prime minister may be hoping for a political boost from his latest meeting with Trump, whom he again praised as Israel\u2019s greatest friend. Netanyahu said: \u201cWe decided to break a convention \u2013 or create a new one \u2013 and that is to award the Israel prize, which in almost our 80 years we\u2019ve never awarded it to a non-Israeli, and we\u2019re going to award it this year to President Trump <em>\u2026 <\/em>for his tremendous contributions to Israel and the Jewish people<em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">It was a second consolation prize for Trump, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/oct\/10\/trump-nobel-peace-prize-reaction\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">missed out<\/a> on this year\u2019s Nobel peace prize but received a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/2025\/dec\/05\/fifa-peace-prize-trump-world-cup-infantino\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Fifa peace prize<\/a> \u2013 dismissed by critics as a cynical ploy by world football\u2019s governing body to curry favour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">As if returning the compliment, Trump claimed he had spoken to the Israeli president, Isaac Herzog, who told him that a pardon for Netanyahu in his long-running corruption trial was \u201con its way\u201d. Trump said: \u201cHe\u2019s a wartime prime minister who\u2019s a hero.
