{"id":7865,"date":"2025-12-29T22:27:28","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T22:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=7865"},"modified":"2025-12-29T22:27:28","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T22:27:28","slug":"authorities-identify-the-two-victims-of-new-jersey-helicopter-crash-they-were-always-together-new-jersey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=7865","title":{"rendered":"Authorities identify the two victims of New Jersey helicopter crash: \u2018They were always together\u2019 | New Jersey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Two men who died after their helicopters collided midair in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/new-jersey\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">New Jersey<\/a> over the weekend both earned their private pilot licenses over a decade ago and would often have breakfast together at a cafe near the crash site before taking to the skies from the local airport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Authorities on Monday identified the two New Jersey men as Kenneth Kirsch, 65, and Michael Greenberg, 71. Witnesses told police that the two helicopters they were piloting Sunday were flying close together just before they crashed in a farm field near the airport in Hammonton, about 35 miles (56km) south-east of Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Hammonton police chief Kevin Friel said in a statement that Kirsch, of Carney\u2019s Point, was pronounced dead at an area hospital after being flown there, while Greenberg, of Sewell, died at the crash site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cReports were that they were flying in tandem, that they were flying close together, which is probably what caused the collision to occur,\u201d Friel <a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/post\/dead-helicopter-collision-hammonton-new-jersey\/18327955\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">told 6ABC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board were examining the accident site on Monday and determined the debris field is about 100 yards (91 meters) long and contains parts of the main rotors and tail rotors, a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A preliminary report is expected in about 30 days, the NTSB said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Friel said rescuers responded to a report of an aviation crash at about 11.25am on Sunday. Video from the scene shows a helicopter spinning rapidly to the ground. Police and fire crews subsequently extinguished flames that engulfed one of the helicopters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenatorAndyKim\/status\/2005377718867894519\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">statement on X<\/a>, Andy Kim, senator for New Jersey, said he was \u201cheartbroken\u201d to learn of the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI know our community will rally behind the family of the individual who lost their life as we navigate this terrible tragedy,\u201d said Kim<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">US Senator Cory Booker described the crash as \u201chorrifying and tragic\u201d in a social media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SenatorCoryBooker\/posts\/reports-of-this-mornings-fatal-helicopter-crash-over-south-jersey-are-horrifying\/1452102519607908\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">statement<\/a>. \u201cMy heart is with those impacted and their families,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Federal Aviation Administration described the crash as a midair collision between an Enstrom F-28A helicopter and Enstrom 280C helicopter near Hammonton municipal airport. They often stopped at the Apron Cafe next to the airport for breakfast before flying, said the restaurant\u2019s owner, Sal Silipino.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Silipino <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/atlantic\/2025\/12\/2-helicopter-pilots-had-breakfast-together-minutes-before-their-aircraft-collided-over-nj.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">told NJ.com<\/a> that the pilots were \u201cvery pleasant\u201d regulars who had breakfast at his restaurant on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThey would come in every week or two if the weather was nice,\u201d Silipino said. \u201cThey were always together \u2026 If we see one flying, the other one was always right behind them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Silipino said Kirsch and Greenberg ate at the cafe shortly before the crash. Patrons watched the helicopters take off from the airport and were stunned when the aircraft fell from the sky, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cIt was shocking. Still shaking to see that happen,\u201d Silipino said. \u201cThey were just at our cafe having breakfast. They fly in together. They seem to be very nice people. They were also very kind to the workers and staff and all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">He said the helicopters\u2019 flights appeared to begin without incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI saw one go down and then I saw the other one go down and there was little bit of disbelief. Contact information for M&amp;M Charter could not be immediately found Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Hammonton resident Dan Dameshek told NBC10 that he was leaving a gym when he heard a loud snap and saw two helicopters spinning out of control.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cImmediately, the first helicopter went from right side up to upside down and started rapidly spinning, falling out of the air,\u201d Dameshek told the TV station. \u201cAnd then it looked like the second helicopter was OK for a second, and then it sounded like another snap or something \u2026 and then that helicopter started rapidly spinning out of the air.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Hammonton is a town of about 15,000 people located in Atlantic county in the southern part of New Jersey.
