Three men who escaped from a Georgia<\/a> jail for three days hijacked a Lyft rideshare as part of a brazen attempt to flee to south Florida, according to newly released federal court documents.<\/p>\n

Stevenson Charles, 24; Yusuf Minor, 31; and Naod Yohannes, 25, are accused of escaping from the DeKalb county jail, located 15 miles (24km) outside Atlanta, on Sunday before being recaptured in Florida<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The latest records provide further insight into how the men, who are all incarcerated for violent crimes, including murder charges, managed to escape and travel through several states.<\/p>\n

The rideshare driver told the FBI that the trio ordered a Lyft using a fake, female name, according to an affidavit, NBC News<\/a> reported. Minor\u2019s girlfriend allegedly helped the men order the Lyft ride, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n

When the driver attempted to drop the men off at their location, the men attacked her, wrapping a rope around her neck and dragging her to the backseat.<\/p>\n

The driver later told police that the men threatened to rape and kill her during the 10-hour trip to Florida.<\/p>\n

Charles, Minor and Yohannes then used the woman\u2019s credit cards and bank information to rent a property in Miramar, Florida, a suburb of Miami. The men also used the driver\u2019s car while in the area. Police tracked down the trio\u2019s whereabouts using license plate readers, which allow law enforcement to search for wanted vehicles.<\/p>\n

All three men were later arrested. The driver was rescued from the rental property, records state, and was examined for injuries.<\/p>\n

The trio\u2019s escape was discovered on Sunday during a standard security check.<\/p>\n

Temetris Atkins, chief deputy of DeKalb county, told reporters on Tuesday that the men managed to escape through an older part of the jail.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe repaired the area that was compromised, and we\u2019re looking at other areas that are similar to that to fortify them to make sure that they are not compromised in the same manner,\u201d Atkins said.<\/p>\n

Phone records searched by police following the trio\u2019s escape revealed that one of the men had been in touch with people outside to help them avoid arrest after their escape.<\/p>\n

Minor and Yohannes are both serving life sentences for murder charges, NBC reported. Charles is being detained on murder and armed robbery charges.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
