President Donald Trump<\/span> said the U.S. launched airstrikes in northwest Nigeria on Christmas night targeting ISIS militants and warning future attacks may follow.<\/p>\n \u201cTonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!\u201d Trump wrote Thursday on Truth Social<\/a>. <\/p>\n Africa Command conducted the strikes in northwest Nigeria\u2019s Sokoto State, according to the War Department. \u201cThe command\u2019s initial assessment is that multiple ISIS terrorists were killed in the ISIS camps,\u201d a Pentagon spokesperson told The Intercept.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Trump has spent the first year of his second term touting his efforts to end conflicts<\/a> and claiming to be a \u201cpeacemaker<\/a>\u201d even as he has recently made war in Iran<\/a>, Iraq<\/a>, Nigeria, Somalia<\/a>, Syria<\/a>, Yemen<\/a>, and the Caribbean<\/a> Sea and the Pacific Ocean in 2025.<\/p>\n \u201cI have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was,\u201d wrote Trump. \u201cThe Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing.\u201d<\/p>\n Over two terms, the Trump administration has repeatedly killed noncombatants, from Somalia to Yemen. Most recently, the Trump administration has been killing civilians in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean. The military has carried out 29 known attacks at sea since September<\/a>, killing at least 105 civilians whom it claims are narco-terrorists.<\/p>\n The War Department did not reply to questions about the numbers of enemy forces and civilians killed in the Christmas attack in Nigeria. \u201cSpecific details about the operation will not be released in order to ensure operational security,\u201d said the Pentagon spokesperson.<\/p>\n In November, Trump ordered the Defense Department to prepare for a military intervention in Nigeria to protect Christians from attack by Islamic militants. War Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed Thursday\u2019s strikes in a post on social media<\/a>, writing that the U.S. was \u201cGrateful for Nigerian government support & cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cU.S. Africa Command is working with Nigerian and regional partners to increase counterterrorism cooperation efforts related to on-going violence and threats against innocent lives,\u201d said Gen. Dagvin Anderson, the chief of U.S. Africa Command. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n
