Rochester, New York<\/a><\/span> after a domestic disturbance call on Friday night on December 19. A man called police and said his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend was trying to get into his home. The caller told police that the man possibly had a gun and that he himself also had a pistol. When police showed up, they found the suspect at the side of the house. He then fired his gun, hitting two police officers and the caller. The caller also fired at the suspect.\n<\/p>\nThe suspect fled but another police officer found him. The suspect shot the third police officer, who along with other police at the scene fired at the suspect. The suspect was shot and killed by police.\n<\/p>\n
Officers responded to a 911 call around 10:15 p.m. after a man reported that his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend was attempting to break into her home and might have a gun. When officers arrived and located Davis at the side of the house, he immediately pulled out a handgun and opened fire at close range, striking two officers and the 911 caller. One officer was shot multiple times in the upper body but was protected by his ballistic vest and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the second officer was shot in the upper body and required surgery, leaving him in critical but stable condition. Davis fled the scene and was found minutes later at the intersection of Arnett Boulevard and Thurston Road. When ordered to stop by a third officer, Davis opened fire again, shooting the officer once in the upper body. That officer and others returned fire, striking Davis multiple times and killing him at the scene.\n<\/p>\n
All three wounded officers were treated at Strong Memorial Hospital and received life-saving treatment. The 911 caller, who had exchanged gunfire with Davis and was shot multiple times, was also hospitalized in serious but non-life-threatening condition. Police Chief David Smith noted that each of the injured officers had fewer than 10 years on the force.\n<\/p>\n
Davis had an active arrest warrant for aggravated harassment from an October incident and had previously threatened the victim in July, telling her he would “put a bullet in her head,” which led to her obtaining an order of protection. He was convicted of third-degree burglary in 2005 and was illegally possessing a .40-caliber Glock handgun at the time of the shooting, which he fired until it was empty. Rochester Mayor Malik Evans called the incident “people’s Exhibit A on what domestic violence can do,” noting that the police department receives more than 6,000 domestic violence calls annually.\n<\/p>\n
