Trump administration begins releasing long-awaited Epstein files<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n

The US justice department has begun releasing the long-awaited \u201cEpstein files\u201d, after months of political wrangling, a popular furor and repeated attempts to deflect scrutiny over Donald Trump<\/strong>\u2019s links to the late sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The release comes after deputy attorney general Todd Blanche<\/strong> said that the justice department would release \u201cseveral hundred thousand documents\u201d from the Epstein files on Friday but hinted that some may be held back \u2013 at least temporarily \u2013 citing the need to protect victims.<\/p>\n

\u201cI expect that we\u2019re going to release more documents over the next couple of weeks,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

House Democrats, led by Robert Garcia<\/strong> and Jamie Raskin<\/strong>, condemned the Trump administration\u2019s delay to release all of the Epstein files as a violation of federal law and vowed to pursue legal options.<\/p>\n

The scandal has dominated Washington for months, dogging the US president since his return to the White House for a second term, splintering his conservative base and spurring accusations of an attempted \u201ccover-up\u201d from across the political spectrum.<\/p>\n

Some of the most sought-after material will pertain to the president\u2019s relationship with Epstein, who killed himself in a Manhattan jail while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges in 2019. Trump and Epstein were close friends for years<\/a> before falling out.<\/p>\n

Trump is not accused of any wrongdoing. But concerns have been raised about how, why and when his relationship with Epstein broke down, and how much Trump knew about Epstein\u2019s conduct. Trump and his allies have denied that he knew about Epstein\u2019s conduct, and no evidence has suggested that he took part in Epstein\u2019s trafficking operation.<\/p>\n
