Its chairman Paul Greenwood yesterday blamed market forces and government policies for its demise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The UK government yesterday announced a \u00a375m loan guarantee and \u00a350m grant alongside \u00a325m of equity from Ineos to keep the Grangemouth ethylene plant open.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Sir Jim said the UK government\u2019s intervention at Grangemouth is \u201ca timely and welcome recognition of the need to maintain our core manufacturing capability in the UK and I want to thank them for their support for this vital UK infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cGrangemouth is hugely important both economically and strategically. We need jobs.\u00a0 \u00a0We need home production. We need national security which we lose if we can\u2019t run hospitals or make armaments or transport food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">However, he said government policy was undermining attempts to build the economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThe government\u2019s support for Grangemouth is a great start but is only a start in re-establishing a competitive manufacturing base for the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWe now MUST scrap carbon taxation, the most idiotic tax in the world.
