The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has released reports stating the cause of death of the film director Rob Reiner<\/a> and his wife, the photographer Michele Singer Reiner.<\/p>\n

Both are listed on the organisation\u2019s website with the cause given as \u201cmultiple sharp force injuries\u201d and \u201chomicide\u201d stated as the manner of death. The date of death, which had been the subject of some speculation, is given as Sunday 14 December.<\/p>\n

The Reiners\u2019 bodies were discovered on Sunday<\/a> at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles after their daughter Romy went to check on them. Their son Nick was arrested later the same day and has been subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder, and the use of a dangerous weapon, a knife.<\/p>\n

Nick Reiner appeared in court on Wednesday<\/a> but did not enter a plea. Reporters inside the courtroom<\/a> said he was hidden from view until the end of the hearing; he appeared to be shackled and wearing a suicide prevention vest. He spoke only once, saying \u201cYes, your honour\u201d, to respond to a question from the judge who asked if he understood his right to a speedy trial process. He is due to return to court for an arraignment hearing on 7 January.<\/p>\n

Rob Reiner\u2019s peers in the entertainment industry have continued to post tributes, with Meg Ryan, star of Reiner\u2019s hit romcom When Harry Met Sally, writing<\/a>: \u201cThank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rob and Michele Reiner\u2019s children Romy and Jake also released a statement to People magazine, saying: \u201cWords cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren\u2019t just our parents; they were our best friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

The release of Reiner\u2019s final film, a concert movie featuring Spinal Tap playing at Stonehenge, has been delayed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
