Trump condemned for \u2018disgusting\u2019 and \u2018depraved\u2019 statement after deaths of Rob Reiner and wife Michele<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n

In an astonishing post<\/a> on Truth Social this morning, Donald Trump<\/strong> suggested that Hollywood director Rob Reiner<\/strong>, 78, who was found dead at his home alongside his wife Michele<\/a>, 68, in what is being investigated as an \u201capparent homicide\u201d, was killed because he angered people with his \u201cTrump Derangement Syndrome\u201d.<\/p>\n

Reiner had spoken out about Trump many times over the years. He said in a 2017 interview with Variety<\/a> that he thought Trump was \u201cmentally unfit\u201d to be president and called him the \u201csingle most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also told the Guardian last year<\/a> that Trump\u2019s re-election could lead to the US turning into an autocracy. \u201cWe see autocracy making its move around the world,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd so if we [the US] crumble, there\u2019s a danger that democracy crumbles around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president\u2019s Truth Social post has been met with fierce criticism online, with many commentators calling it \u201cdisgusting\u201d and \u201cdepraved\u201d<\/strong>. Others have also contrasted Trump\u2019s words with his administration\u2019s calls for compassion after the killing of Charlie Kirk (and its crackdown on anyone it deemed to be \u201ccelebrating\u201d or \u201cmaking light\u201d of it)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This clip<\/a> has been making the rounds, in which Reiner poignantly explained that he had felt \u201cabsolute horror\u201d at Kirk\u2019s assassination in September. \u201cThat should\u2019ve never happened to anybody<\/strong>,\u201d Reiner told Piers Morgan. \u201cI don\u2019t care what your political beliefs are \u2013 that\u2019s not acceptable, that\u2019s not a solution<\/strong>.\u201d He added that he found Kirk\u2019s widow\u2019s forgiveness of her husband\u2019s killer \u201cbeautiful\u201d and \u201cadmirable\u201d. It would be one of Reiner\u2019s final television interviews.<\/p>\n

A quote from Kirk himself in 2016 has also resurfaced today: \u201cYou can tell a lot about a person by the way they react when someone dies.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n
