It will also mean many businesses will no longer be entitled to the Small Business Bonus Scheme (SBBS) which is vital to their survival.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Last week the Association of Scotland\u2019s Self Caterers (ASSC), Scottish Tourism Alliance (STA), Scottish Land and Estates, Federation of Small Businesses, and Scottish Agritourism wrote\u00a0to Public Finance Minister Ivan McKee demanding intervention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">New analysis reveals that a small, rural pub will see its valuation soar 160% from \u00a39,474 to \u00a324,700. This will take the pub out of the SBBS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">One restaurant in Edinburgh\u2019s city centre last week received a rateable value increase of 54% and announced its closure with immediate effect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">UKHospitality is also calling for a permanently reduced business rates poundage for hospitality and leisure at a rate of 30 pence in the pound \u2013 funded by rebalancing the burden to reflect the rise of the online economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Leon Thompson, executive director of UKHospitality Scotland, said:\u00a0\u201cHospitality businesses across Scotland continue to be punished by the broken business rates system.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Leon-Thompson-UKH.png\" alt=\"Leon Thompson\" class=\"wp-image-172601 lazyload\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"998\" height=\"674\" src=\"https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Leon-Thompson-UKH.png\" alt=\"Leon Thompson\" class=\"wp-image-172601 lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Leon-Thompson-UKH.png 998w, https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Leon-Thompson-UKH-300x203.png 300w, https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Leon-Thompson-UKH-768x519.png 768w, https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Leon-Thompson-UKH-600x405.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 998px) 100vw, 998px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThis 23% average increase to rateable values will push up hospitality\u2019s business rates bill by as much as \u00a369 million. That\u2019s simply not sustainable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThere are businesses that have received their draft valuations and are seeing increases of 160% and higher. They\u2019re working out what this will mean for their bills and are coming to the clear realisation that the scale of increases will be unaffordable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWithout action, we will only see business closures accelerate, more jobs lost and Scottish communities continue to see the loss of much-loved local venues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThe Scottish Government can solve this problem. It is an important issue, because it will affect the sustainability of many businesses as a consequence of the proposed changes.
