{"id":3531,"date":"2025-12-14T12:13:21","date_gmt":"2025-12-14T12:13:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=3531"},"modified":"2025-12-14T12:13:21","modified_gmt":"2025-12-14T12:13:21","slug":"shabana-mahmood-dismisses-white-houses-civilisational-erasure-claims-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=3531","title":{"rendered":"Shabana Mahmood dismisses White House\u2019s \u2018civilisational erasure\u2019 claims | Politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The US government\u2019s claims that Europe faces \u201ccivilisational erasure\u201d because of mass migration are an attempt to score political points against Muslims, the home secretary has suggested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Shabana Mahmood dismissed the idea that European civilisation and national identities were under threat because of migration and said the UK had managed the challenges of multiculturalism \u201cvery well\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Her comments are the strongest response from a government minister so far to Donald Trump\u2019s national security strategy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The strategy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/dec\/09\/trump-hints-walking-away-ukraine-calls-europe-weak-decaying\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">published earlier this month<\/a>, triggered alarm with its wide-ranging attack on European governments and suggestion that the US should promote \u201cpatriotic\u201d political parties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Asked by Trevor Phillips on Sky News to respond to the strategy and its implicit criticism of Muslims in Europe, Mahmood said: \u201cOthers will want to make political points about whether there\u2019s too many Muslims in Europe or not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWhat I would say is we\u2019re the sort of country that allows people to have the calling of their own conscience to live their own life free, but also has common rules that we all live by so that we live in peace together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The home secretary said she was \u201cvery proud to be a citizen of a country that is as diverse as we are\u201d and added: \u201cWe are a multifaith, multi-ethnic country. I think that we have managed the challenges very well compared to other countries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThat\u2019s not to say that we don\u2019t have work to do on integration, on the pace of change in our communities. It\u2019s why I\u2019m looking very closely at not just illegal migrants into our country but legal migration as well, to make sure it\u2019s done in a way that retains public confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">President Trump\u2019s security strategy calls for the restoration of \u201cwestern identity\u201d and claims that Europe will be \u201cunrecognisable in 20 years or less\u201d and faces the \u201cstark prospect of civilisational erasure\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">It says the US wants \u201cEurope to remain European\u201d and \u201cregain its civilisational self-confidence\u201d.
