IOM Consulting, the Edinburgh-based researcher into occupational and environmental health risks, has been\u00a0acquired\u00a0by\u00a0Rcapital. <\/p>\n
The transaction secures the independent future of the business, its laboratories and 90 staff in the capital, Stafford and Chesterfield.<\/p>\n
IOM Consulting was set up in 1990 as the commercial\u00a0subsidiary\u00a0of the Institute of Occupational Medicine, the research charity founded by the National Coal Board in Edinburgh in 1969. <\/p>\n
It was placed into administration after a sustained fall in research and grant funding. Richard Bathgate and Graeme Bain of Johnston Carmichael were appointed as its\u00a0joint\u00a0administrators.<\/p>\n
Over more than three decades, IOM Consulting\u00a0has built a reputation for independent measurement, testing, occupational hygiene\u00a0consulting\u00a0and expert opinion, working for law firms, NHS trusts, rail infrastructure\u00a0operators\u00a0and industrial clients across the UK.<\/p>\n
Martin Dorchester will step away from his role as CEO of the\u00a0combined\u00a0group\u00a0and Michelle Reid will take up the role of managing director of IOM Consulting.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ms Reid said \u201cLike many organisations across the UK,\u00a0the\u00a0Institute of\u00a0Occupational\u00a0Medicine\u00a0had\u00a0faced a challenging business environment in recent years.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said the\u00a0acquisition \u00a0means that\u00a0the research,\u00a0IOM\u00a0brand,\u00a0capabilities\u00a0and knowledge\u00a0available within the workforce\u00a0is\u00a0maintained.<\/p>\n
