The Secret Garden Distillery had won awards<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A family-run gin distillery, which won an award last year for its production process, has been placed into voluntary liquidation with all 16 jobs lost.<\/p>\n

The Secret Garden Distillery, based at Lothianburn, near Edinburgh, was launched on a derelict plot in 2012, using 600 varieties of plants harvested on site.<\/p>\n

Opus Restructuring & Insolvency has been appointed liquidator following the disilltery\u2019 failure to raise additional investment from a third party.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the liquidators told The Herald:<\/em> \u201cGareth Wilcox and Mark Harper of Opus Restructuring & Insolvency were appointed joint liquidators of Secret Garden Distillery, following the director\u2019s concluding that the company must cease trading and enter creditors\u2019 voluntary liquidation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe withdrawal of the interested party and absence of any likely alternative gave rise to the decision that there was no option but to commence liquidation proceedings.\u201d<\/p>\n

All employees, including the directors, were made redundant. A disposal of assets is in process with no certainty over the site.<\/p>\n

The Midlothian distillery was named UK Gin Producer of the Year 2025\u00a0by the\u00a0IWSC & Club Oenologique, which it said is \u201can award judged solely on liquid quality.\u201d It has received other recognition from the industry.<\/p>\n
