Andy Burnham has promised to build a new political and economic model for Britain with early plans to tackle housing shortages and the cost of energy.<\/p>\n
Speaking without notes and a lectern outside Number Ten, he said he would put \u201clife\u2019s essentials back under public control\u201d in order to make them affordable again, and pledged to re-industralise and stabilise Britain.<\/p>\n
Later this year, he will bring forward a 10-year plan for Britain, laying out the path of where he wants Britain to be. In the meantime he would give people \u201cbreathing space\u201d to meet rising bills.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis moment will be a circuit breaker for Britain,\u201d he said, adding that cost of living measures will be outlined from tomorrow, along with how he would pay for them.<\/p>\n
It is thought that this will include raising the threshold on the personal allowance which has been frozen at \u00a312,570 for five years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will help people to live well, investing in success rather than paying for failure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He declared he would end rough sleeping across Britain, though commentators noted that a similar promise he set for Manchester has not been achieved.<\/p>\n
He repeated Friday\u2019s comments about the concentration of wealth and power in London, but offered no further comment beyond his commitment to more devolution and more public control of utilities.<\/p>\n
