A new 8,500-capacity entertainment arena proposed for the western fringe of Edinburgh Edinburgh Park has been delayed by a failure to hire a contractor and rising supply chain costs.<\/p>\n
Permission for the venue off the by-pass at Edinburgh Park was granted two years ago with a view to the first events being staged next year.<\/p>\n
That target had already been pushed back by a year and it now appears it will be extended even further, though no new timetable has been provided.<\/p>\n
Alistair Wood, executive vice president for real estate and development at AEG International, which is behind the project, commented: \u201cWe remain committed to delivering the Edinburgh Park Arena and continue to make progress behind the scenes as we work through the next phase of the project<\/p>\n
\u201cAs with any major development of this scale, timelines are kept under regular review as design, procurement and commercial discussions continue.<\/p>\n We are particularly focused on securing a main contractor and supply chain, which remain a challenge in Scotland at the current time.\u201d<\/p>\n AEG is the owner of London\u2019s O2 Arena and the Uber Arena in Berlin, and has been working with Edinburgh Park developer and site owner Parabola which is also overseeing new housing and offices between the south Gyle and Edinburgh Park rail station.<\/p>\n The first phase of properties at The New Village comprises 146 private homes.
