{"id":3117,"date":"2025-12-12T20:33:32","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T20:33:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=3117"},"modified":"2025-12-12T20:33:32","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T20:33:32","slug":"google-and-apple-roll-out-emergency-security-updates-after-zero-day-attacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=3117","title":{"rendered":"Google and Apple roll out emergency security updates after zero-day attacks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple and Google have released several software updates to protect against a hacking campaign targeting an unknown number of their users.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Wednesday, Google <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/chromereleases.googleblog.com\/2025\/12\/stable-channel-update-for-desktop_10.html\">released patches<\/a> for a handful of security bugs in its Chrome browser, noting that one of the bugs was being actively exploited by hackers before the company had time to patch it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unusually for Google, the company provided no further details at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But on Friday, Google updated the page to say that the bug was discovered by Apple\u2019s security engineering team and Google\u2019s Threat Analysis Group, whose security researchers primarily track government hackers and <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/25\/techcrunch-reference-guide-to-security-terminology\/#spyware-commercial-government\">mercenary spyware<\/a> makers, indicating that the hacking campaign may have been orchestrated by government-backed hackers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, Apple released security updates for its flagship products, including iPhones, iPads, Macs, Vision Pro, Apple TV, Apple Watches, and its Safari browser.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/125884\">the security advisory for iPhones and iPads<\/a>, Apple patched two bugs that the company said it was aware \u201cthat this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals\u201d running devices prior to iOS 26.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That language is Apple\u2019s typical way of saying that it knows some of its customers and users were targeted by hackers exploiting <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/25\/techcrunch-reference-guide-to-security-terminology\/#zero-day\">zero-days<\/a>, meaning flaws that at the time of exploitation are unknown to the software makers.
