{"id":30696,"date":"2026-05-20T00:44:26","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T00:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=30696"},"modified":"2026-05-20T00:44:26","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T00:44:26","slug":"philadelphia-could-add-to-the-squad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=30696","title":{"rendered":"Philadelphia Could Add to the Squad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"has-underline\">The Democratic Party\u2019s<\/span> left flank is hoping to add to its ranks in Congress in Philadelphia on Tuesday in what\u2019s been viewed as a contest between the party\u2019s moderate and progressive wings.<\/p>\n<p>Progressives coalesced around state Rep. Chris Rabb in the tight four-way race to replace retiring Rep. Dwight Evans, D-Pa. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/polls\/pennsylvania-us-house-3-polls-2026.html\">Limited polling<\/a> has shown the race at times led by state Sen. Sharif Street, a middle-of-the-road Democrat who was formerly the chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, or by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropsitenews.com\/p\/aipac-udp-ala-stanford-philadelphia-congress-race\">Dr. Ala Stanford<\/a>, a pediatric surgeon backed by a pro-Israel super PAC that sponsored the April poll showing her in the lead. Also on the ballot is Shaun Griffith, an attorney who has yet to break through in the polls.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford was in the lead with just shy of a quarter of the results in not long after polls closed Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BLOCK(cta)[0](%7B%22componentName%22%3A%22CTA%22%2C%22entityType%22%3A%22SHORTCODE%22%2C%22optional%22%3Atrue%7D)(%7B%7D) --><!-- END-BLOCK(cta)[0] --><\/p>\n<p>Whoever wins the Democratic primary is heavily favored to win in November\u00a0in the deep blue 3rd Congressional District.<\/p>\n<p>The race has unfolded along some of the same fault lines animating the broader Democratic Party \u2014 from the influence of special interest groups to the <a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2026\/02\/18\/sharif-street-philadelphia-israel-palestine-congress\/\">genocide in Gaza<\/a>. Rabb, who has been a vocal critic of U.S. military support for Israel, has attracted a slew of endorsements from progressive members of Congress like Reps. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/elections-2026-3rd-district-cory-booker-sharif-street\/\">rallied<\/a> alongside him in the final days before the election. Street, meanwhile, earned the support of <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/elections-2026-3rd-district-cory-booker-sharif-street\/\">Sen.
