An exodus of wealthy individuals and families from the UK because of punitive taxes is a key finding in the latest edition of The Sunday Times Rich List.<\/p>\n
The minimum entry level has dipped to \u00a3340 million\u00a0\u2013\u00a0an indicator of a subdued year in which numerous foreign billionaires fled the UK and no longer appear in the ranking.<\/p>\n
However, foreigners also account for the year\u2019s two biggest risers, both born in Moscow.<\/p>\n
Nik Storonksy<\/strong>, co-founder of payments firm Revolut, has seen his wealth climb to \u00a316.411 billion \u2013 with average gains of \u00a325.8 million a day since last year\u2019s Rich List. The rise is explained by a fundraising valuing the London-based business at \u00a355.6bn.\u00a0<\/p>\n Alex Gerko,<\/strong> the mathematician who set up trading platform XTX, has a fortune now estimated at \u00a316bn. The increase in his wealth since the 2025 edition equates to\u00a0 average daily gains of \u00a319.9m over the past 12 months.\u00a0<\/p>\n Danish landowner and retailer Anders Holch Povlsen<\/strong> retains top spot on Scotland\u2019s wealthiest list with an \u00a38.3bn fortune. He owns the Shetland rocket launchpad, the retailer Bestseller and the building in Princes Street, Edinburgh, that formerly housed Jenners.<\/p>\n Others on the Scottish list worth more than a billion include Sir Ian Wood<\/strong> and his family; Glenn Gordon<\/strong> and his family, heirs to the William Grant whisky empire; Lady Philomena Clark<\/strong>, the\u00a0widow of the car-seller Sir Arnold Clark; the bus company owners Sandy and James Easdale<\/strong>; and the Thomso<\/strong>n family, publishers of titles including The Press & Journal, The Courier and The Beano. A new entrant to the Scottish list is Dunfermline-born entrepreneur Paul Hamilton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Just below the billionaire threshold is the Harry Potter author JK Rowling<\/strong>. As in previous years there is no mention of Doug Barrowman and Lady Michelle Mone (see full list below).<\/p>\n Oasis stars Noel\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Liam Gallagher<\/strong> are among those making their debut following their 41-venue tour which earned almost \u00a3400m at the box office for the brothers who share a \u00a3375m fortune.<\/p>\n Sir David and Victoria Beckham<\/strong>, the Labour donor Gary Lubner<\/strong> and the sports promoters Barry and Eddie Hearn<\/strong> all join Britain\u2019s billionaire club for the first time.\u00a0<\/p>\n David Beckham becomes\u00a0the UK\u2019s first billionaire sportsman\u00a0owing to his stake in Inter Miami and an extensive property empire adjoining the US football club\u2019s stadium. The value of Lady Victoria\u2019s fashion label has also risen. The Beckhams\u2019 wealth is estimated at \u00a31.185bn.<\/p>\n Christopher Harborne<\/strong>, the Thailand-based billionaire who has given at least \u00a312 million to Nigel Farage and the Reform Party, makes his debut at No 6 with estimated wealth of \u00a318bn.\u00a0<\/p>\n Among this year\u2019s wealthiest under 40s is Scottish tennis star Sir Andy Murray<\/strong>. He is joint 36th with a \u00a3110m fortune.<\/p>\n Investors Sanjay and Dheeraj Hinduja<\/strong> and their family are the richest people in the UK with a fortune of\u00a0\u00a338bn, up from \u00a335.3bn last year.<\/p>\n One of the biggest fallers is Sir Jim Ratcliffe<\/strong> whose sprawling petrochemicals empire Ineos, spans 27 countries. As a result of rising debt, falling revenues and a \u00a3515.7m loss, the value of the business has declined to \u00a317bn. Ratcliffe\u2019s 29% stake in Manchester United is worth \u00a31.4bn.<\/p>\n Another notable faller is Sir James Dyson<\/strong> who drops out of the top 10 after seeing his wealth down by \u00a38.8bn to \u00a312bn.<\/p>\n The Royal Family\u2019s wealth has been in the spotlight and the list puts the King<\/strong>\u2018s fortune at \u00a3680m.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s list reveals that the 350 individuals and families listed have combined wealth of\u00a0\u00a3783.5\u00a0billion\u00a0\u2014\u00a0a sum larger than the annual GDP of\u00a0Belgium,\u00a0Sweden and\u00a0Israel. It represents about a quarter of the UK\u2019s total annual GDP. <\/p>\n However, the list reveals how wealthy people are willing to relocate to preserve their tax status.<\/p>\n Compiler Robert Watts said:\u00a0\u201cThis year\u2019s Rich List is a tale of two exoduses. One in six of the individuals and families who appeared on the list two years ago don\u2019t feature this time.<\/p>\n \u201cMany foreign billionaires who have been living in the UK drop out because they have moved away.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have also seen a strong rise in the number of British nationals now resident in Dubai, Switzerland and Monaco. As UK nationals these people remain on our Rich List\u00a0\u2013\u00a0wherever they now live.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThese two exoduses pose challenges for the UK economy and its public finances. Will more of the wealthy now set up or grow their ventures overseas and in doing so create fewer jobs here? How much tax\u00a0\u2013\u00a0if any\u00a0\u2013 will Rachel Reeves\u2019s Treasury be able to extract from those affluent Brits who have now left the country?\u201d<\/p>\n Nearly a third (111) of the UK citizens who appear in the main list of 350 individuals no longer live on the British mainland. At least 15 foreign nationals who appeared in last year\u2019s Rich List have been removed because they now live elsewhere.\u00a0<\/p>\n Warren Stephens<\/strong>, the US president\u2019s ambassador in London, is the only billionaire from overseas found to have moved to the UK over the past year.<\/p>\n Watts said that understanding where wealth lies and where it is being accumulated is a vital part of a functioning democracy.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cOver the years our research has told us a lot about our country, charting the way a generation of largely self-made entrepreneurs overtook the old money of the landed gentry.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThis year\u2019s edition shines a light on fortunes made from artificial intelligence, driverless cars and crypto-currencies as well as baby milk, make-up, hoodies and other everyday items. <\/p>\n \u201cWe know many of our readers find those rags-to-riches stories of entrepreneurs who started out with little more than a laptop and an idea particularly inspiring.\u201d<\/p>\n Scotland\u2019s wealthiest<\/strong><\/p>\n There are few changes to Scotland\u2019s wealthiest people which again includes a smattering of foreigners living north of the border and a newcomer who has a big stake in a software business in England.<\/p>\n Danish landowner and retailer Anders Holch Povlsen<\/strong> retains top spot with an \u00a38.3bn fortune.
