The Scottish Greens want to extend the four-day week to more workers, arguing the future of Scotland\u2019s work must be about improving the quality of life.<\/p>\n
It says that a shorter working week eases the pressure on overstretched mental health services, by\u00a0reducing stress for workers, resulting in fewer sick days.<\/p>\n
Scottish Greens co-leader, Gillian Mackay said:\u00a0\u201cToo many people feel trapped in a system where life revolves around work. <\/p>\n
\u201cOur economy has been built on a broken idea that people exist to work, instead of work existing to support people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Scottish Greens believe that work should give us the means to live, not take over our lives entirely. That\u2019s why we are committed to rolling out the four-day work week across as much of Scotland\u2019s public sector as possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cA four-day week \u2013 without loss of pay \u2013 would transform how we work, helping people spend more time with their families, support their communities and live fuller, happier lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve\u00a0already seen the benefits it has through recent successful trials,\u00a0and we want to build on them.\u201d<\/p>\n
