The European Union\u2019s top executive body has confirmed a cyberattack after hackers reportedly stole reams of data from its cloud storage.<\/p>\n
European Commission spokesperson Nika Blazevic confirmed to TechCrunch on Friday that the Commission \u201cdiscovered a cyber-attack, which affected part of our cloud infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have taken immediate steps and contained the attack. Risk mitigation measures were also implemented. The investigation is ongoing but we can already confirm that the Commission\u2019s internal systems were not affected by the cyber-attack,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
In a longer statement on its website<\/a>, the Commission said the breach \u201caffected its cloud infrastructure hosting the Commission\u2019s web presence on the Europa.eu platform,\u201d which hosts much of the Commission\u2019s website data.\u00a0<\/p>\n
