Scottish banker Dame Debbie Crosbie is taking on a UK Government role to help women take key roles in the financial services sector. <\/p>\n
Dame Debbie, chief executive of Nationwide Building Society, becomes Women in Finance Champion, succeeding Aviva\u2019s Dame Amanda Blanc whose five year tenure has seen senior female representation rise from 32% to 36% among about 440 firms.<\/p>\n
It is an unpaid, direct ministerial appointment reporting to the Economic Secretary to the Treasury.<\/p>\n
Chancellor Rachel Reeves, said: \u201cWhen I became Chancellor, I said my time in office would be a success if more young women and girls knew there should be no ceiling on their ambition and no limit to what they can achieve.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Women in Finance Charter is a key tool to achieve that progress. I thank Amanda for her exceptional leadership over the past five years, and look forward to working with Debbie as she takes on the mantle.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dame Debbie, who held senior roles at Clydesdale Bank and TSB Bank, said: \u201cWhen women succeed in business they inspire the next generation and ensure economic growth is sustainable and inclusive. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Charter is key to driving even more growth in financial services and harnessing all of the sector\u2019s skills and talents. I look forward to building on the excellent progress made by Amanda, and working with the Chancellor and across our industry to encourage even more growth and progress.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dame Debbie joined Nationwide as its first-ever female CEO in June 2022 and was appointed a Dame Commander of the British Empire (DBE) in June this year for services to the financial sector.<\/p>\n
