hashtag data from the UK\u2019s biggest shopping centres has revealed that the Trafford Centre is officially Britain\u2019s most Instagrammable mall, racking up a staggering 156,000 hashtag mentions in posts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That\u2019s three times more than Westfield London, the country\u2019s largest shopping centre by size (235,900 m2), which trails behind with just 52,000 mentions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And it\u2019s not just Manchester flying the flag.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The research by the lifestyle team at <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lottomart<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> shows that the North dominates Britain\u2019s shopping selfie culture, with Liverpool One 400\">Despite being home to some of the UK\u2019s largest retail spaces, London failed to dominate the rankings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While Westfield London just sneaked in the top five, other capital-based centres such as Westfield Stratford City (31,800 posts) and Brent Cross (800 posts) fell significantly behind their Northern rivals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Even though Westfield London spans more than 235,000 square metres, it generates only a third of the Instagram buzz of the Trafford Centre \u2013 suggesting size alone doesn\u2019t translate into social media appeal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The findings reflect how shopping centres have evolved into \u201cexperience destinations\u201d, with architecture, d\u00e9cor and photogenic features driving posts as much as purchases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Centres with grand staircases, domed ceilings, rooftop terraces and statement fa\u00e7ades appear to perform strongest online.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Manchester alone claims two spots in the top four, reinforcing the city\u2019s reputation as a retail and lifestyle hotspot.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Least Instagrammed Centres<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At the other end of the scale, several major centres recorded fewer than 1,000 hashtags.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Among the lowest were:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Whitgift Centre (Croydon)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 350<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>The Merrion Centre (Leeds)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 400<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Westquay (Southampton)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 700<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The dramatic contrast highlights a growing divide between retail spaces that double as social media hotspots and those that remain purely functional shopping destinations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With millions of Brits documenting their days out online, shopping centres are increasingly competing not just on stores and restaurants, but also on aesthetic appeal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From marble interiors to glittering seasonal displays and panoramic rooftop bars, the modern shopping centre is as much about the photo
