The big-box retailer that sells you milk and underwear is in search of a bullseye. Target plans to refocus on the needs of \u201cbusy families,\u201d new CEO Michael Fiddelke told investors yesterday as the retail chain tries to win back customers.<\/p>\n

The issue:<\/strong>\u00a0Target has been\u00a0struggling\u00a0to turn itself around ever since a pandemic-era revenue boom subsided into stagnancy. Some customers told CNBC that they feel store inventory is lacking and that they aren\u2019t fans of Target\u2019s DEI rollbacks.<\/p>\n

The potential fix:<\/strong>\u00a0More baby care and groceries, and less of being \u201can everything store,\u201d Fiddelke said. The company said it\u2019ll invest an additional $1 billion in its supply chain, technology, and stores, including staffing (meanwhile, Target cut 1,800 corporate jobs in October).<\/p>\n

For now<\/h2>\n

Fiddelke laid out this turnaround vision after the company\u00a0shared\u00a0a somewhat bad (but also somewhat good) earnings report for its most recent quarter, ending Jan. 31:<\/p>\n

  • The bad: Target posted its fourth straight quarter of declining store and online traffic, and revenue came in even lower than Wall Street\u2019s already low expectations.<\/li>\n
  • The good: The retailer\u2019s earnings actually beat estimates. Another bright spot: Target\u2019s same-day deliveries\u2014which compete with Walmart\u2019s and Amazon\u2019s offerings\u2014grew more than 30%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Looking ahead\u2026<\/strong>Target expects to get out of its slump soon and projects 2% growth in net sales for this fiscal year.\u2014ML<\/em><\/p>\n
