Good morning, tech reporter Beatrice Nolan here, filling in for Allie Garfinkle. We just wrapped up Fortune\u2019s Brainstorm AI conference in San Francisco, where apparently everyone wants to be the next trillion-dollar company. <\/p>\n

\n

Amid the bubble trouble and agentic optimism, we also heard from Cursor CEO Michael Truell about how the company is feeling about the\u2014increasingly hot\u2014competition and a potential IPO.<\/p>\n

Cursor, which provides an AI code editing tool that is popular with software engineers, has enjoyed a meteoric rise to $29.3 billion valuation just over two years after releasing its first product. Even as leading AI labs like OpenAI and Anthropic lean into building their own coding tools, Truell said he wasn\u2019t sweating the competition.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because Cursor benefits from and builds off other companies\u2019 base models, he said. Cursor\u2019s approach is to cherry-pick the best models available, supplement them with proprietary ones where necessary, and wrap it all into what Truell says is the best user interface for AI coding.<\/p>\n

Part of the reason for this optimism may be that Cursor is already seeing some promising results from within its own organization. Truell says the company had already automated roughly 80% of its employee support tickets with the help of the tech. He also said Cursor had implemented an internal AI-powered communication system that allows employees to glean information from across the organization.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a system where folks can ask any question about the company and get it answered by an AI,\u201d Truell said, as well as a project with \u201ca few forward-deployed engineers internally embedded throughout, building custom tooling right now for operations, for sales, and experimenting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t expect an IPO anytime soon, though. After hitting $1 billion in annualized revenue in November and raising $2.3 billion last month, Truell said the company is focused on building out more features, not going public. <\/p>\n

– <\/span>Nu<\/b>Quantum<\/b>, a Los Angeles, Calif. and Cambridge, U.K.-based distributed quantum computer company, raised $60 million in Series A funding.<\/span> National Grid Partners<\/b> led the round and was joined by <\/span>Gresham<\/b>House<\/b>Venture<\/b>, <\/span>Morpheus<\/b>Ventures<\/b>, and others.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Runware<\/b>, a London, U.K.-based San Francisco AI-inference platform designed for image, video, and audio generation, raised $50 million in Series A funding. <\/span>Dawn<\/b>Capital<\/b> led the round and was joined by <\/span>Comcast<\/b>Ventures<\/b>, <\/span>Speedinvest<\/b>, and others.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Qargo<\/b>, a London, U.K.-based transport management platform, raised $33 million in Series B funding. <\/span>Sofina<\/b> led the round and was joined by existing investor <\/span>Balderton<\/b>Capital<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Inito<\/b>, a Bangalore, India-based fertility tracker, raised $29 million in Series B funding. <\/span>Bertelsmann<\/b>India<\/b>Investments<\/b> and <\/span>Fireside<\/b>Ventures<\/b> led the round.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Assaia<\/b>, a Zurich, Switzerland-based aviation technology company, raised $26.6 million in Series B funding. <\/span>Amira<\/b>Growth<\/b> led the round.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>SuperCircle<\/b>, a New York City-based textile waste management platform, raised $24 million in Series A funding. <\/span>Foundry<\/b> led the round and was joined by <\/span>BBG<\/b>Ventures<\/b>, <\/span>Renewal<\/b>Fund<\/b>, and <\/span>Elemental<\/b>Impact<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Parallel<\/b>, a New York City-based teletherapy and special education provider for K-12 schools and districts, raised $20 million in Series B funding. <\/span>Valspring<\/b>Capital<\/b> led the round and was joined by existing investor <\/span>Rethink<\/b>Impact<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Hello<\/b>Vet<\/b>, a London, U.K.-based veterinary practice that allows owners into medical rooms, raised \u00a315 million ($20 million) in Series A funding. <\/span>Addition<\/b> and <\/span>Future<\/b>Positive<\/b> led the round.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Surf<\/b>, a San Francisco-based AI-based platform designed for crypto analysis and insights, raised $15 million in funding. <\/span>Pantera<\/b>Capital<\/b> led the round and was joined by <\/span>Coinbase<\/b>Ventures<\/b> and <\/span>DCG<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Matta<\/b>, a London, U.K.-based developer of industrial AI designed to detect defects and optimize processes in factories, raised $14 million in seed funding. <\/span>Lakestar<\/b> led the round and was joined by <\/span>Giant<\/b>Ventures<\/b>, <\/span>RedSeed<\/b>VC<\/b>, <\/span>InMotion<\/b>Ventures<\/b>, and others.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Caveo<\/b>, a Sao Paulo, Brazil-based financial platform designed for doctors, raised $10 million in Series A funding. <\/span>Zenda<\/b> and <\/span>ONEVC<\/b> led the round and were joined by <\/span>Norte<\/b>Ventures<\/b>, <\/span>Enseada<\/b>, and others.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Bioxodes<\/b>, a Gosselies, Belgium-based biopharmaceutical company developing therapies designed to treat thrombotic and inflammatory diseases, raised \u20ac5.5 million ($6.4 million) in a Series A extension. <\/span>Newton<\/b>Biocapital<\/b> led the round and was joined by others.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Channel3<\/b>, a New York City-based platform designed to automatically generate and maintain AI-ready product data, raised $6 million in seed funding. <\/span>Matrix<\/b> led the round and was joined by <\/span>Ludlow<\/b>Ventures<\/b> and others.<\/span><\/p>\n

PRIVATE EQUITY<\/h3>\n

– <\/span>Azul<\/b>, backed by <\/span>Thoma<\/b>Bravo<\/b>,<\/span>acquired <\/span>Payara<\/b>, a Malvern, U.K.-based platform designed for running enterprise Java applications. Financial terms were not disclosed.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Bregal<\/b>Milestone<\/b> acquired a majority stake in <\/span>Beyond<\/b>Now<\/b>, a Dublin, Ireland-based provider of supply chain software for AI-powered digital commerce. Financial terms were not disclosed.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Great<\/b>Point<\/b>Partners<\/b> acquired a majority stake in <\/span>Lenis<\/b>Group<\/b>, a Ljubljana, Slovenia-based commercialization and distribution partner for prescription medicines. Financial terms were not disclosed.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Oak<\/b>Hill<\/b>Capital<\/b> agreed to acquire <\/span>Hunter<\/b>Communications<\/b>, a Medford, Ore.-based fiber-optic internet provider. Financial terms were not disclosed.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Tata Consultancy Services<\/b> acquired <\/span>Coastal<\/b>Cloud<\/b>Holdings<\/b>, a Palm Coast, Fla.-based consultancy designed to help with Salesforce and data, from <\/span>Sverica<\/b>Capital<\/b>Management<\/b> for $700 million.<\/span><\/p>\n
