This problem has disrupted the tourism industry for nearly a decade and placed financial strain on businesses across the value chain.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Parliament called for urgent corrective measures to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clear outstanding applications<\/li>\n<li>End consistent enforcement<\/li>\n<li>Halt the unfair impoundment of tour operator vehicles<\/li>\n<li>Halt the fining of operators who had already applied and were waiting for approval<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa (Fedhasa) welcomed parliament\u2019s intervention, saying it would bring long-overdue relief to tour operators who have faced enforcement action while waiting for licence approvals.<\/p>\n<p>Parliamentary members warned that delays in processing applications had placed significant financial pressure on the tourism industry, with operators facing vehicle impoundments despite having submitted licence applications and complied with regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n<div class=\"visible-sm-block visible-xs-block m1010\">\n<div class=\"ad-container-wrapper\">\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>CONTINUE READING BELOW<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Fedhasa\u2019s National chair Brett Tungay said the industry can now \u201cbreathe a sigh of relief\u201d because parliament is stepping in to solve a decade-long problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a major step toward restoring fairness, certainty, and dignity to operators who have been trying to comply with the law while simply attempting to keep their businesses alive,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>Fedhasa pointed out that tour operators play a critical role in South Africa\u2019s tourism economy, directly supporting accommodation providers, restaurants, attractions, guides and transport services, all of which contribute to employment.<\/p>\n<p>Read: Fedhasa turns to court for clarity on Samro\u2019s in-room licensing fees<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTourism is an ecosystem.
