Threads is testing a shortcut to make it easier to DM someone, the Meta-owned company announced<\/a> on Thursday. Users who are part of the test can type \u201cDM me\u201d or \u201cMessage me\u201d in a post or reply to automatically generate a hyperlink that invites others to start a private conversation with them.<\/p>\n Tapping on the shortcut will take you to a one-on-one direct messaging chat with the person. If you both follow each other, the message will go directly to their primary inbox. If you don\u2019t follow each other, the message is filtered through the \u201cMessage Requests\u201d folder to prevent spam. <\/p>\n The company says the new shortcut removes the need to navigate to a person\u2019s profile to start a DM conversation with them. <\/p>\n While Threads was late to introduce a native DM feature<\/a>, this latest move indicates that the social network is looking to make messaging a more central part of its platform, as it\u2019s working to reduce the number of steps it takes to start a conversation. <\/p>\n The new feature is rolling out to select users in the U.S. and Canada. As with any other test feature, it\u2019s unknown when or if Threads plans to roll out the feature more widely. <\/p>\n The DM shortcut is just one of several new features that have rolled out on Threads in recent months. The social network recently introduced an AI-powered feature<\/a> that lets users personalize their feed, and the ability to share posts directly<\/a> to an Instagram Story without leaving the app. Plus, Threads was spotted exploring in-message games<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n The additions come as a recent report from market intelligence firm\u00a0Similarweb<\/a>\u00a0suggested that\u00a0Threads now surpasses X<\/a>\u00a0in daily mobile usage.
