{"id":25442,"date":"2026-02-26T16:45:27","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T16:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=25442"},"modified":"2026-02-26T16:45:27","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T16:45:27","slug":"corbyn-to-be-your-party-parliamentary-leader-as-sultana-joins-leadership-committee-your-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=25442","title":{"rendered":"Corbyn to be Your Party parliamentary leader as Sultana joins leadership committee | Your Party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Jeremy Corbyn is to become the de facto leader of Your Party, after an election in which his rival <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/zarah-sultana\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Zarah Sultana<\/a> was also voted on to the party\u2019s leadership committee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The former Labour leader\u2019s allies declared victory immediately after the vote in which Corbyn-backed candidates took 14 of the 24 available places on the party\u2019s central executive committee (CEC). Sultana-backed candidates took seven of the seats and three went to independents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Your Party, which has a collective leadership model and will be led by the CEC, announced that 25,347 people had voted out of a potential 40,985 verified members, a 61% turnout.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Corbyn, who will become the parliamentary leader of the party, said it was time for the \u201creal work\u201d to begin and that the movement had to come together to defeat \u201cthe fear, divisiveness and racism of Reform\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI am delighted that members have voted for a mass, socialist party that takes the fight to Starmer and Farage,\u201d he said. \u201cNow, the real work begins. We have a precious opportunity to unite our movement around a bold vision for this country \u2013 one that creates a more caring, equal and peaceful world for all. Both put forward a \u201cslate\u201d of candidates, with Corbyn\u2019s \u201cThe Many\u201d slate seeking to appeal to a ?? broader coalition of leftwing voters and \u201ccampaign on the big issues\u201d, such as the cost of living and Palestine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Sultana\u2019s \u201cGrassroots Left\u201d slate offered a narrower ideological vision, emphasising the need for \u201cmaximum member democracy\u201d, and warned against the danger of \u201cLabour 2.0\u201d if Corbyn\u2019s camp won. The stakes are too high. With fascism growling at the door, we must take the fight to the country on the cost of living crisis, the housing emergency, the climate emergency and in standing firmly against genocide and injustice wherever it occurs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Sultana said she remained committed to \u201cbuilding a socialist, anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist party\u201d, adding: \u201cThe work continues \u2013 together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Sources close to Sultana said she had no intention of quitting the party despite Corbyn\u2019s victory. \u201cShe will stay and fight,\u201d they said. \u201cShe\u2019ll be fighting with the other seven women that have been elected from Grassroots Left to make sure that the party is as democratic as it can be and to give as much power to the members as \u2018The Many\u2019 will allow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The 24-person CEC \u2013 on which 20 women will sit \u2013 will decide who takes the roles of chair, deputy chair, secretary, treasurer, political officer and spokesperson.
