{"id":2379,"date":"2025-12-10T16:02:39","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T16:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=2379"},"modified":"2025-12-10T16:02:39","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T16:02:39","slug":"judge-blocks-trump-administrations-deployment-of-national-guard-troops-in-los-angeles-trump-administration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=2379","title":{"rendered":"Judge blocks Trump administration\u2019s deployment of national guard troops in Los Angeles | Trump administration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A US judge on Wednesday morning blocked the deployment by the federal government of national guard troops in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/los-angeles\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Los Angeles<\/a> and ordered the guard returned to the control of the California governor, a court filing showed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/trump-administration\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Trump administration<\/a> is being challenged in federal court over its authority and rationale for continuing to maintain command over the national guard troops it deployed to the city earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In a historically rare move, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/trump-administration\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Trump administration<\/a> federalized California\u2019s national guard in June, dispatching about 4,000 troops in response to protests in the city over immigration raids, despite opposition from the state\u2019s Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, who quickly filed a lawsuit on behalf of the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Newsom called the move unprecedented and illegal, and the case has been unfolding in the courts for months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">On Wednesday, US district judge, Charles Breyer, rejected the Trump administration\u2019s claim that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/los-angeles-ice-protests\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">recent protests<\/a> against aggressive enforcement by the federal immigration authorities amounted to a rebellion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The federal government had argued that the incidents legally justified the extraordinary step of taking federal control of state national guard units against the wishes of a state governor, the office that typically controls such troops, and sending them onto the streets of LA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">During a hearing in San Francisco last Friday, Breyer had appeared skeptical of the federal government\u2019s case and, specifically, argued that the situation in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/los-angeles\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Los Angeles<\/a> had changed since the troops were first deployed, questioning whether the administration could command the state\u2019s national guard indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">California had asked the judge to issue a preliminary injunction in order to return control of the remaining national guard troops in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/los-angeles\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Los Angeles<\/a> to the state, on which Breyer ruled on Wednesday. He had previously declared that the deployment was illegal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Breyer, in a San Francisco court filing granted the preliminary injunction sought by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/california\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">California<\/a> officials to end the deployment and return the 100 or so remaining troops to the state\u2019s command.
