A lawyer working for some of Jeffrey Epstein\u2019s victims has said she does not believe there will be \u201cany real justice\u201d for those trafficked and abused by him and his high-profile associates, despite the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.<\/p>\n
Gloria Allred, a women\u2019s rights lawyer for 50 years, said although the UK had acted quickly on the allegation that the former prince had shared confidential documents with the disgraced financier while he was a trade envoy, there did not appear to be as much movement on sexual assault allegations against him.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4, she said: \u201cThe state has acted quickly to make this arrest but there still has not been any action on the part of the police on allegations that Andrew has committed crimes against women.<\/p>\n
\u201cApparently allegations concerning the state trade secrets and\/or allegations of financial crimes are given priority and quick action while allegations of rape and child sexual abuse and sex trafficking take many years to investigate and do not result in arrests and accountability for victims who are women and girls.\u201d<\/p>\n
King Charles\u2019s brother has denied raping Virginia Giuffre, who died by suicide in April last year before the release of her memoir, and previously settled out of court with his alleged victim. Another woman has since come forward alleging he also abused her.<\/p>\n
Allred added: \u201cNevertheless, the UK is ahead of the United States in demanding some accountability from powerful men who were part of Jeffrey Epstein\u2019s social and business circles.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd in contrast to the United States, there has been no accountability in the criminal justice system and no meaningful accountability in the civil justice system in the United States for powerful men who have conspired with Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse or sex traffic children and adult female victims.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said the Department of Justice in the US used to be a separate entity from the president but it was now \u201cin a way, acting as the president\u2019s own private law firm\u201d and that Donald Trump could not be compelled to prosecute any of the alleged offenders.<\/p>\n
Despite being required by law to release all the files that were part of the state\u2019s investigation into Epstein, there are still documents that have not been released. \u201cIn other words, we can\u2019t see all of the files and it seems as though survivors have been punished by having their names released, while the names of alleged perpetrators, in some cases \u2013 rich, powerful, famous men \u2013 those have been covered up,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She said the arrest of Mountbatten-Windsor would make \u201cno difference\u201d to the likelihood anyone in the US would be prosecuted. \u201cI can\u2019t say that that\u2019s going to happen even though it would be nice,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
